Nanu’s Farm in Bomi County Benefits GoL Agriculture Transformation Project

By Staff Writer

Nanu’s Farm, a large palm farm in Senjeh District, Bomi County, has experienced a significant increase in its production capacity as a result of interventions made by the Smallholder Agriculture Transformation and Agribusiness Revitalization Project (STAR-P), a collaborative effort between Liberia’s Ministry of Agriculture and its international partners.

James B. Wah, Jr., the Farm Manager, expressed gratitude for the project’s support, highlighting the acquisition of tractors for transportation, modern machines for processing palm oil, and the construction of a modern processing center with offices. Wah emphasized the project’s impact on increasing the quantity of oil produced, leading to higher income and the ability to hire more workers.

“Before STAR-P, we faced challenges with labor-intensive traditional processing methods and low income. Now, with the project’s interventions, we have seen a significant improvement,” Wah stated.

However, the Farm Manager noted the need for the project to assist in linking them to markets or buyers for their oil.

James B. Kollie, the Bomi County Focal Person for STAR-P, commended Nanu’s Palm Farm and other beneficiaries for their hard work. He encouraged other farmers in the county to take advantage of the project, which is currently recruiting hundreds of additional farmers.

“The transformation we are witnessing at Nanu’s Farm is a testament to the positive impact of the STAR-P project. We encourage other farmers to join us in this journey towards agricultural transformation,” Kollie remarked.

The STAR-P project aims to increase agricultural productivity and commercialization for smallholder farmers in selected counties of Liberia. It is expected to directly benefit 38,000 smallholder farmers, with a focus on including 40 percent women and 35 percent youth.

Implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture with support from the World Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
